My Progress in the Month of September

Okay, okay: I’m late. But you know what? My sister and I marathoned Stranger Things – the whole first season – so anyone who’s seen it couldn’t possibly be mad at me.

Right?

Anyway, now that that’s out f the way, how bout them numbers, eh?

September 1 – 1,296

September 2 – 1,273

September 3 – 1,324

September 4 – 1,407

September 5 – 1,104

September 6 – 1,251

September 7 – 1,238

September 8 – 1,347

September 9 – 1,230

September 10 – 1,524

September 11 – 1,405

September 12 – 1,326

September 13 – 1,286

September 14 – 1,169

September 15 – 1,392

September 16 – 1,188

September 17 – 1,403

September 18 – 1,590

September 19 – 1,308

September 20 – 1,346

September 21 – 6,120 (I realized I was so close to finishing the first draft that after my daily hour of writing, I kept going and wrote from roughly 2pm to about 9pm with just a half hour break for dinner. I finished it! Now to take it apart, restructure the layout, and rewrite it. WOO!)

September 22-28 – Reviewed draft 1 and outlined draft 2

September 29-30 – I decided to try a different outlining style, starting from scratch and refusing to look back at the first draft, just going off my memory of the major events and what I knew needed to happen. This way, I’m less biased and can see only the basic silhouette, with plenty of room to fill in newer and fresher details.

Overall words written in September: 32,527

So that was it! This past month had a lot of excitement (and also a lot of headache), though everything looks so bland when it’s reduced to print. The process has slowed down now that I’m back to outlining, but my image of this book has never been clearer, so if anyone ever tells you drafting isn’t worth it, shoo them away and get back to work.

I’ll be seeing you again soon! Try not to miss me.
